Some of my favorite artists are out of the great state of Washington (Death Cab for Cutie and the Long Winters to name two), but none compare to the uniquely melodic sounds of Seattle’s Hey Marseilles.

Fresh off of SXSW, the band is ready to take the nation by storm. My older brother Alex gave me their debut album To Travels & Trunks in September, and while hesitant at first, I decided to give it a listen. I don’t think I’ve ever fallen in love with an entire album so quickly and completely. They are often compared to bands like the Decemberists and Bright Eyes, but I consider them incomparable to anything else I’ve heard. Check out this video of Hey Marseilles performing one of my personal favorites of theirs, “Rio”. Just the sheer number of instruments used is impressive in itself.
Let me know your opinion; I can’t wait to recommend them to Aaron and see what he thinks too.

Amazing sound. Hints of Damien Rice with the original, heartfelt lyrics and the chello in the background. Hope they spend some time in the “cold California sun” sometime soon. If they tour, I’m there.
