Last night, tons of LIVE 105ers joined us for the ultimate Halloween party – Spookfest 2010! Our 2nd annual Subsonic Halloween Spookfest took over the Cow Palace with 15,000+ sweaty costumed fans in the mood to party. Last year’s concert featured such acts as The Faint & Basement Jaxx, and this year, the talent was even bigger and better with heavy hitters like DJ Shadow, Steve Aoki, and MSTRKRFT.
The show started early at 6pm with The Limousines kicking off the night with a short set that included singer Eric Victorino getting off the stage and singing while wandering through the crowd. Next up was AFI side project Blaqk Audio, featuring Davey & Jade, who performed a mix of songs from their debut album and new material from their unnamed forthcoming 2nd album. Booka Shade came on the main stage shortly thereafter and I didn’t know how this younger crowd expecting a lot of high-energy music would receive two german guys playing mid-tempo music with live percussion and keyboards, but to my surprise the crowd was very open minded to the wide array of electronic acts of the course of the entire night. One surprise of the evening was SOFI who came out and performed her new single she wrote with Deadmau5 during Tommy Lee & DJ Aero’s set. Steve Aoki played a greatest hits DJ set of material he has been involved with old and new including a unreleased song with Travis Barker that Steve sings on. Later in the evening Bay Area legend DJ Shadow performed in a globe while images projected onto it. DJ Shadow last night had the loudest and most intense bass I have ever heard. To hear a medly of his old catalog was very nostalgic for Bay Area natives like me who grew up listening to him over the years. Overall, Spookfest brought a good mix of old and new electronic acts and great vibes that showed what this genre was built on and what the future holds.
