Maybe you liked MGMT‘s cd Congratulations, maybe you loved it…

Either way on March 15th a remixed version of the disc comes out.  If you’re a fan of their earlier disc Oracular Spectacular maybe this is a chance for you to bond with Congratulations!

In other MGMT news, yes they are hard at work on a new album, details to come as the recording process evolves…

I don’t think what made Oracular Spectacular so great were the radio freindly singles, but how deep the album went after those tracks. A remix album of Congratulations might go too far towards sounding commercial. I hope I’m wrong. At least let the new album fall somewhere between the first two. That would sound brilliant!

I don’t think that record could sound commercial ever, i think Congratulations is a true listening experience and remxing that just creates a whole new experience…you probably won’t hear much on the radio to be honest!

Well, of course it “could” sound commercial, it all depends on how it’s remixed. If it’s mixed at 132 bpm with all sythesizers, that’s going to sound like they’re going for radio hits. I’m of course hoping that’s not what they do but to say it could never sound commercial before you even hear it is a bit of a stretch. And of course it’s going to get pushed at radio, why bother remixing it and releasing it if that’s not the plan?

it could but with a 10min long song on there I don’t think they’re looking for ‘radio hits’…and you also have to take into consideration they went out of their way to make a record without a ‘radio hit’. but even if there was a song we picked up would it be all that bad to hear another MGMT track on the radio?? no.
