Curie And Jett Say “No Go” To Runaways Trib Set

Founding Runaways Joan Jett and Cherie Currie have sicked their legal beagles on Main Man Records, trying to bar the release of a new tribute album.
Main Man’s plans to release a collection of 36 Runaways covers — by the likes of David Johansen and the Dandy Warhols — has been interrupted by legal proceedings initiated by the two former riot grrls.
The pair’s mouthpiece, Oren Warshavsky, says: “This isn’t about money – it’s strictly about preserving reputation and quality that both Joan and Cherie are known for.”
Meanwhile, Main Man peeps are bumming, “We find it terribly sad that a charitable record could be deemed to be sullying anyone’s image.” The label says the proceeds are pledged to the American Institute of Cancer Research in memory for Runaway Sherrie West, who died of cancer in 2006.
Called Take It or Leave It: A Tribute to the Original Queens of Noise is due out on June 28. We’ll see…
Meanwhile, here’s a clip from the movie that didn’t sully their (good, bad or profitable) reputation.
