White Lies were originally set to hit New York City back on January 27 for an intimate show at Highline Ballroom. But as many East Coasters recall, we had one snow-filled winter. The storm basically shut NYC down and prevented White Lies from flying our way.

Jump forward to May 19, and the London-based band finally made it to New York, this time playing the much bigger Terminal 5. Earlier that day, Jack Lawrence-Brown, Harry McVeigh and Charles Cave stopped by the Last.fm Discover studio to talk about their latest album Ritual.

Ever since White Lies dropped their debut album To Lose My Life… in 2009 they’ve been compared to Joy Division and Editors. I heard their influences lean more towards The Chameleons or The Teardrop Explodes. During our Last.fm Discover interview, I avoided the topic, but as you’ll hear, Harry let’s us in on what they were listening to and enjoying while making the new album.

After you hear the first band he mentions, once you listen, it all makes sense.
