What do Harry Potter and Batman have in common?

Whose going to the midnight showing of Harry Potter tomorrow? Are you a Batman fan too? Check out what surprise is coming your way tomorrow!

The publicity machine for The Dark Knight Rises is gearing up, with the first official poster hitting the internet a year before the film’s release. The striking image (above) shows the buildings of Gotham City breaking away, leaving an outline of the iconic bat symbol in the sky.

What do Harry Potter and Batman have in common?
Bat-fans have already begun debating what the image represents, with some seeing the outline as ‘the hole’ left by the masked vigilante and the clear-ish sky as a metaphor for better days ahead.

The choice of buildings as the primary feature is reminiscent of the Inception teaser poster, also directed by Christopher Nolan, which saw the title of the film spelt out in skyscrapers.

The release of the poster gives extra weight to speculation that a teaser trailer will be attached to the front of the final Harry Potter film.

Joining Nolan Batman regulars Christian Bale, Michael Caine and Gary Oldman, will be Anne Hathaway, Tom Hardy and Joseph Gordon-Levitt.

For more tantalising glimpses of all things Batman, and a full screen version of the poster, check out the official The Dark Knight Rises website.

The Dark Knight Rises is due for UK release on July 20 2012.
