Community Connection With Liz Saint John 01.29.2012

Liz Saint John interviews three guests every Sunday morning covering a variety of issues and topics. She talks with representatives from Bay Area non-profit organizations, documentary filmmakers, authors, and professors.

1. Scientist Victor DeNoble, the central character in the new documentary “Addiction Incorporated,” explains how he was hired by Phillip Morris in 1980 to figure out how to make a cigarette that wouldn’t kill the company’s consumers. His work eventually led to the congressional hearings in the 1990’s and the change in public health policy regarding tobacco products.

2. San Francisco General Hospital Foundation’s Heroes and Hearts events to celebrate four local community heroes is February 9th. Lunch co-chair Connie Shanahan, hero Martha Ryan, Executive Director of Homeless Prenatal Program, and heart artist Margaret Timbrell talk about their work.

3. California Layers for the Arts legal intern Dave Murphy and Music Business Seminar producer Claire O’Neill talk about the speakers and workshops at the annual event on February 4th at Bolt Hall, UC Berkeley.
