Being a celebrity stylist seems to be all the rage, with Bravo shows like The Rachel Zoe Project and It’s a Brad, Brad World. So, exactly how much money are these stylists to the stars actually making?
According to Amy Odell of New York Magazine, “stylists dressing a celebrity for the Oscars can charge anywhere from $1,500 a day to upwards of $10,000 a day, depending on who the stylist and star are. So a stylist able to charge $10,000 a day, who dresses five celebrities for an award show, spending five days on each outfit, can make $250,000 from one Oscar ceremony.”
What stars are actually paying stylists for are selecting, borrowing, and receiving in-high-demand outfits (read: designer dresses), jewelery, and shoes; lugging around these elaborate ensembles; and making sure their clients look spectacular on the red carpet.
The full New York Magazine article breaks down Charlize Theron’s example outfit at this year’s Golden Globes. The total cost of her outfit comes to $8,079,905 but she paid for nothing, except her stylist’s services, of course. Granted, she had to give a lot of the goods back to their rightful owners and she got a pair of Givenchy shoes and full hair and makeup out of the deal.
