The band known for best for their controversial 1997 track, “Smack My Bitch Up,” The Prodigy have remained a group that many high-profile dance/electronic bands still site as an influence. Their hard-edged sound under the heavy helping of punk rock lyrics have stirred a legion of devout fans since their launch in 1990.

Taking their name from the well revered Moog Prodigy synthesizer, the band has has weaved its way in and out of the rock scene depending on the album. While being played most heavily at radio stations worldwide, their most notable album, The Fat Of The Land, was pulled from shelves at Walmart and Kmart due to heat from The National Organization for Women.

Linkin Park brought out their heroes on tour in November 2010 for select dates to help promote their 2008 disc Invaders Must Die.

The Prodigy have revealed the working title for their new studio album, the follow-up to their 2009 effort Invaders Must Die, has been given the working title How To Steal A Jet Fighter, the band’s frontman Liam Howlett told NME.

Howlett promised that the band’s sixth studio LP would be “heavier and darker.” He continued, “We’re really excited about it. The last record was kind of a party album, I guess. We were all happy to be back together again. But the best tunes of that album are the ones that have less of that. It’s definitely going to be heavier, darker.”

In an interview in January, Howlett was questioned about the last dubstep craze to which he responded, “All the dubstep stuff that’s around, we’re loving it, but that’s not our game. We won’t go near it.”

The Prodigy are expected to debut new songs during their headline slot at this summer’s Download Festival also featuring Metallica and Black Sabbath.
