Sent in an email to KROQ from Dirty Heads frontman Jared Watson:

I really really don’t know what words to use to express how much MCA meant to me other than, I understand.

I never understood why people would get bummed and cry when musicians and celebs died. I always had “well u didn’t know them personally” type thoughts. Now I understand. These people were part of you part of who u were and who you are. I understand.

The Beastie Boys were my childhood my adolescence, hell they were the beginning of my career. The loss I feel is strange yet familiar all at the same time, I feel like I’ve lost a friend and a brother, a brother I’ve only seen with my own eyes once from the nose bleed seats. Yet he was with me when I drank my first beer and smoked my first spliff the first time I puked on a girl while trying to hook up the first (but not the last) Time i broke my face off while skating.

I guess What I’m trying to say is that from now on I wont wonder why people are freaking out when some one they’ve never actually met passes away. I wish I didn’t .. But I understand. You will always be a part of me my music and my band.
