Community Connection With Liz Saint John 10.05.2014

Liz Saint John interviews three guests every Sunday morning covering a variety of issues and topics. She talks with representatives from Bay Area non-profit organizations, documentary filmmakers, authors, and professors.

1. Litquake co-founder and co-director Jane Ganahl explains how the 15 year old annual event got started and talks about the featured events and authors at the October 10-18 event. Writer Julia Scott, editor of Drivel: Deliciously Bad Writing by Your Favorite Authors, explains how and why she compiled bad writing from great writers and talks about the book launch event on October 11th at Litquake. Writer Caroline Paul talks about her writing and how an attempt at an investigative piece about the San Francisco Fire Department ended up landing her a job as a firefighter.

2. Dr. Daniel Levitan, a psychology professor at McGill University, talks about the research and science behind his new book The Organized Mind: Thinking Straight in the Age of Information Overload and offers tips on getting and keeping our minds organized.

3.Olga Talamante, Executive Director of Chicana Latina Foundation, talks about their scholarship program, their leadership academy, and other workshops and classes offered by the organization. Christina Fletes, a 2013 scholarship recipient, explains how Chicana Latina Foundation and other organizations have helped her on her educational and professional path. She’s working concurrently on her law degree at UC Berkeley and masters degree at Harvard  in public policy.
