So, when White and sister Meg tried to play the shortest concert ever in Newfoudland, Canada by performing only one note in the form of a clash of a cymbal and the Guiness Book of World Records people turned down their entry, White was less than thrilled.

“We were in Newfoundland and the idea that I came up with at breakfast was, ‘Let’s play one note today,’” explained White in an interview. “I told Meg as we were getting out of the car. I said, ‘Make sure you grab your cymbal and when you hit the cymbal, grab it so that the note only lasts a millisecond.’”

White expressed his dislike of the Guinness Book of World Records people in his interview with Buzz Aldrin in Interview Magazine.

“I was thinking that afterwards we could contact the Guinness World Records people and see if we could get the record for shortest concert of all time. So we did it, but ultimately they turned us down,” said White. “The thing is, though, that the Guinness book is a very elitist organization. There’s nothing scientific about what they do. They just have an office full of people who decide what a record is and what isn’t.

“Most of the records in there – who has the biggest collection of salt-and-pepper shakers or whatever – are just whatever they want them to be,” White continued. “So with something like the shortest concert of all time, they didn’t think whatever we did was interesting enough to make it a record.”

Now, according to Iero in an interview, My Chemical Romance has enlisted their tour drummer Jarrod Alexander and “can’t wait to start tracking” with producer Doug McKean.

“It’s going really well, actually,” said Iero when asked about what would be My Chemical Romance’s fifth studio album. “I’m really excited…I think we’re maybe a month away from the record button lighting up. “

According to the Aquarian Weekly, a New Jersey-based art and music blog, My Chemical Romance is very happy they brought Alexander into the fold.

“Jarrod is a rad guy and a fantastic player,” explained Iero. “It’s been really fun making music with him these past few months. He loves coffee and hitting drums super-hard … and the fact that he’s not a thieving piece of garbage is a breath of fresh air.”

“Since we only had a week’s worth of notice to prepare for this show and with scheduling conflicts and all, we decided that instead of using a real-live human drummer,” said Iero about the band’s stepping in for Blink-182 at Bamboozle after drummer Travis Barker got his tonsils removed. “We are going to use the super computer from ‘War Games’ instead. However, we have nicknamed the computer Jarrod.”

Instead the fierce five-piece made a scandalous short film called Through Sin and Self-Destruction that features the band wandering Los Angeles’ infamous Sunset Strip with the likes of porn stars Belladonna and Andy San Dimas and Skid Row’s controversial ex-frontman, Sebastian Bach.

Directed by Frankie Nasso and written by Sumerian Records founder Ash Avildsen, the 15-minute mini-flick includes music videos for “Dear Insanity,” “Reckless and Relentless,” and “To The Stage.”

When DJ Rocky Rock (as you may know from Sublime With Rome) was nowhere to be found, legendary LA producer DJ Quik started beat boxing for Supernatural. Glenn compared astrology to fortune cookies in terms of reliability, sparking drummer Elaine Bradley to remark, “I love fortune cookies because 90% of them aren’t even fortunes. They’re sayings.”

The practice of astrology dates back to before the birth of Christ, but fortune cookies don’t even come from China. A similar cookie is served in parts of Japan, but by and large it’s an American invention. While the tenants of astrology are based in star positions, and their impact on your traits and personality, fortune cookies are mostly written by Donald Lau, a vice president at Wonton Food.

The delightfully eccentric rock star is now celebrating his first charted number one album with his recent solo work Blunderbuss and his record label–Third Man Records–has kept up accordingly with balloon music delivery systems, party favor vinyl that is nearly impossible to play, and White’s plans to be the first-ever person to play vinyl in space.

Most recently, White has unveiled a video of a Triple Decker Poster that was created, designed, and printed by Matthew Jacobsen and Bryce McCloud for White’s Ryman Auditorium Nashville, Tennessee shows with the Alabama Shakes.

According to the Third Man Records website, the Triple Decker Poster is “composed of three separate posters that when combined create an all new poster on it’s own… It’s kind of a ‘fourth wall’ inter-dimensional type thing and you’re going to want one, two, or all three of these posters.”

The Black poster, or the bottom poster is letterpressed and features a peacock and vulture egg. The White poster is laser-cut and features no ink, but a cut-out peacock. The Blue poster features a vulture. All three posters includes Jack White’s logo.

The posters will only be available at the Ryman Auditorium shows and only 150 were made of each.

Nestled comfortably in BBC Radio 1′s Live Lounge, fun. performed a live collaboration yesterday with Paramore’s Hayley Williams who sat thousands of miles away in the legendary Capitol Records studio in Los Angeles.

Typically, when artists contribute parts to a song, they send recordings back and forth via email. An engineer is involved and time is spent mixing and tweaking before the track is sent back and forth a few more times. This was something far more adventurous. While fun. strummed away live in London, Hayley sung live in L.A. And, the song they performed is currently #1 on the Billboard Top 100: Gotye’s “Somebody That I Used To Know.”

Williams is currently in Los Angeles working on the new Paramore album, while fun. are in the midst of a European tour.

A respected musician for over a decade, Gotye hadn’t crossed into mainstream consciousness. That all changed with “Somebody That I Used To Know,” which has catapulted him into stardom and awarded his collaborator, Kimbra with celebrity status. Just when it seems the hype can’t get any bigger, white-hot acts like Fun. cover his track. It looks like Gotye’s rocket ride just hit the thrusters.

The family followed the original Spike Jonze-directed music video as closely as possible. The end result is a fun twist on one of the most iconic videos of all time, the 1994 classic “Sabotage.”

In a phone interview this morning with Winter he explained that not only is he a fan but his sons recently fell in love with The Beastie Boys, “When their last album came out, Hot Sauce Committee, we got that and and somehow managed to get a clean version so we’ve just been bumpin’ the heck out of it and they’ve just been lovin’ it.”

“When we decided to do the project I showed them the Sabotage video and one of the recent videos for “Don’t Play No Game That I Can’t Win” featuring G.I. Joe figures getting blown up… and they loved that.”

When asked about the response so far, Winter says that this is the first interview he’s accepted, “This was done because I’m a fan. And I’ve been a fan since I was a kid. I saw them when I was 14 at the Palladium in Hollywood and they changed my life.” He continues about his 1987 concert experience, “I was a punk rock kid and they introduced me to hip hop. When I was at the show it was general admission, open floor, and there were gang bangers and punk rockers and jocks and cholos but everybody was united under these guys. To me, that what the Beastie Boys represent… this spirit of joy no matter who you are, get into the moment and get down.”

Winter popped one of his sons onto the phone to weigh in on his favorite moment of the video. Ivan, with an expectedly squeaky 4 years old voice says, “I loved the when the dummy fell off the bridge.”

Says one viewer, “man, that is so awesome. what a beautiful tribute. you’ve just made my day. say what ? my whole week ! and you made me cry in the end. thanks for this. hope this gets a zillion views. Beastie Boys forever.”

And to think the original video was nominated for five VMAs back in ’94 and lost all of them.

The music project has helped bring Western musicians to Africian nations and African musicians to perform collaborations in the United Kingdom. Flea and Klinghoffer were two of the lucky musicians who got to perform in Ethiopia because of the “profound” Damon Albarn co-founded initiative.

“Josh [Klinghoffer - guitarist] and I went to Ethiopia as part of Africa Express with Damon, who was so kind to invite us, said Flea in an interview with NME. “What an amazing place it is. We meet all kind of people, artists, poets, intellectuals. It’s like another world.”

“We had such a good time,” Flea continued. “One time me and Josh went to this orphanage and we took these two little amps and we just started rocking and they left just started laughing. Like three hundred kids standing all in this circle, all from this orphanage and we just started rocking. Just the two of us. They thought it was the craziest thing. It was righteous man. It was a really profound experience.”

African musician Baaba Maal explained his own experience in an interview with the Guardian. ‘It’s always felt like a journey on an African train,” said Maal. “You set off without any sense of expectation whatsoever…but along the way you meet some amazing people.”

This isn’t the only time Flea has worked with Albarn. Alongside drummer Tony Allen, Flea and Albarn make up experimental side project “supergroup” Rocket Juice and the Moon.

“Supergroup sounds pretty silly,” said Flea about the band. “Damon and Tony are two musicians I admired plenty before I worked with them. Damon’s an amazing musician, and his storytelling ability on a song like Poison seems to be in his blood.”
